Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Awakened Technologies ("we", "us", or "our") operates the ParadoxShift mobile game and the paradoxshift.net website. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By creating an account or using ParadoxShift, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use and contact us to request deletion of any data we hold.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from that provider. We use this to create and manage your game account. You can also play as a guest without providing any account information; guest progress is stored locally on your device only.

Gameplay data

We collect data generated by your use of the app, including:

• Campaign progress and level completions
• Online rating (Glicko-2) and match history
• In-game username and leaderboard rank
• Game results and move sequences for replay and analysis

In-app purchase records

When you make a purchase through Google Play or the App Store, we receive and store the order ID, product ID, and purchase token solely to validate the transaction and unlock the content you purchased. We do not store full payment card details — those are handled entirely by Google or Apple.

Analytics and diagnostics

We collect anonymised usage events to understand how the game is played and to improve it:

• Session start/end timestamps
• Gameplay events (game mode, outcome, move types)
• Crash reports including stack traces, device model, OS version, and app version

These diagnostics are linked to your account only to the extent needed to investigate crashes you report.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter on the website, we store your email address to send you updates about ParadoxShift. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by emailing us directly.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Authenticate your account and keep your progress synced across devices
• Validate and fulfil in-app purchases
• Power online multiplayer, ratings, and leaderboards
• Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
• Analyse aggregate gameplay trends to improve the game
• Send newsletter updates you have subscribed to
• Respond to support requests you submit

We do not use your data to serve targeted advertising, and we do not sell or rent your personal information to any third party.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — processing your account information, gameplay data, and purchase records is necessary to provide the game service you have agreed to use.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — we process analytics and diagnostic data to maintain security, fix bugs, and improve the game. These interests do not override your rights; you may object at any time (see Section 7).
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — we send newsletter emails only with your explicit opt-in. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
• Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — we retain purchase records for the period required by applicable tax and accounting law.

5. Information We Share

We share personal data only where necessary to operate the service:

• Google (Firebase Authentication, Google Play) — used for sign-in and purchase validation on Android. Google's own Privacy Policy governs its data handling.
• Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store) — used for sign-in and purchase validation on iOS. Apple's own Privacy Policy governs its data handling.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. In such cases we will notify you unless legally prohibited from doing so.

If Awakened Technologies is acquired or merges with another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Data Retention

• Account and gameplay data — retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 7).
• Purchase records — retained for the minimum period required to support refunds, disputes, and compliance with tax law (typically up to 7 years).
• Crash and error logs — retained for up to 12 months, then purged.
• Newsletter email — retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data. EEA and UK residents have the following rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR:

• Right of access (Art. 15) — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification (Art. 16) — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
• Right to erasure (Art. 17) — request deletion of your personal data where it is no longer necessary, where you withdraw consent, or where we have no other lawful basis to retain it.
• Right to restrict processing (Art. 18) — ask us to pause processing of your data while a dispute about its accuracy or lawfulness is resolved.
• Right to data portability (Art. 20) — receive a structured, machine-readable copy of the personal data you provided to us, and have it transmitted to another controller where technically feasible.
• Right to object (Art. 21) — object to processing based on legitimate interests. We will stop unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests.
• Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7(3)) — where processing is based on consent (e.g. newsletter), you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy Request". We will respond within one month. For complex or numerous requests we may extend this by a further two months and will notify you of the extension.

Account deletion

You can delete your account directly from within the app via Settings → Account → Delete Account, or use our web-based account deletion page if you no longer have the app installed. Either method immediately removes your account, online rating, and gameplay data from our servers. Purchase records required for legal compliance are retained as noted in Section 6.

Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe we have not handled your personal data lawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). A list of EU supervisory authorities is available on the European Data Protection Board website. We would, however, appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns first — please contact us before escalating.

8. Children's Privacy

ParadoxShift is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), HttpOnly session cookies, and access controls limiting who within our team can view personal information. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your data.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page. For material changes we will also provide in-app notification. Continued use of ParadoxShift after a change is posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
